Baby Dedication
Dedicating your child is an opportunity to partner with God and your local congregation in the raising of your child. A parent’s involvement and responsibility in raising children is spelled out in Proverbs 22:6; Deuteronomy 6:6-7; Ephesians 6:4.
Baby dedication does not include baptism and cannot impart salvation to your child. Salvation only comes through Jesus Christ as each person recognizes his or her sinfulness, repents and receives forgiveness and eternal life through Jesus Christ. The popularity of baby dedication is linked to Matthew 19:14 and has its scriptural root in 1 Samuel 1:27-28.
